Hotel Boston, Venice, Italy

As our car slowly filled up with unwanted visitors, Derek and I decided to not stop in Milan, but continue on to Venice. Now, at least I had Venice to look forward to, if I couldn't have a good night's sleep. (See Best Western entry on July 16th for more information on my inability to sleep in moving objects.)

The night eventually did end, and fortunately, all of the other occupants in our car left in Milan. Derek and I quickly made use of the make-shift "beds", catching some more winks.

What can I say about Venice? Not enough. Besides Paris, it is the only other city to truly have a personality of its own. The canals are beautiful. They even use them for their "subway" system and pizza delivery.

The first thing we did was take the canal ferry to San Marco square, where the tourist attractions are. Here we found a "cheap" hotel to stay in. (Note: Nothing in Venice is cheap.)

After checking in, we walked the city. And walked. And walked. And got lost. And got found. And walked. Etc.

I love Venice's style. The little, little alleys that bend and bend and sometimes lead nowhere. The wonderful architecture. I also love the way that the Venetians have learned to capitalize on the city's romance. (Which makes me miss Jennifer very much. On every street there are 20 couples.)

In the midst of the wandering, we came upon the Accademia, a wonderful museum of Venetian artwork.

(I'll let you guess what we did after that. Hint: We walked.)

Around 10, we made it back to San Marco square, where the Venetians were at it again: using their ability to romanticize the moment. It is very nice, but Derek and I are starting to feel uncomfortable. We stopped to take some pictures of the "Waterfire" musicians in the square, before going around the corner to grab some dinner.

Tonight, I am sleeping in!
