Albergo Abruzzi, Rome, Italy

This morning was a rush. Woke up after sleeping in, took a shower in our little hall bathroom, then rushed over to the train station in order to catch our train to Rome. We had a few minutes before the train arrived at 11:30, so we grabbed some food at McDonald's (which speaks the international language: food.)

Our train ride was nice. We sat next to a couple of vacationing English girls who we conversed with, and compared travels. Something about our conversation struck me as interesting. It was funny that many of the same things that shock me about mainland Europe shock them, too: the scantily-clad ads, the communal showers, the under-usage of the word "sorry". It seems that we still have a lot in common with the English, though our histories have split over 2 centuries ago, and I have never been there.

From the train station we called our hotel from our Europe for Dummies and reserved a room. We hopped on the Metro, headed over to the Spanish Steps, and then walked in a direction. We thought it was the direction of the hotel, but we were wrong. We found ourselves weaving around Rome, monument by monument, until we reached the Pantheon. The Pantheon was nearby the hotel, but where was the hotel? Again, we wandered, up and down, until at the end of an alley, we turned around and saw the Pantheon and the Albergo Abruzzi hotel right next to each other. Our room is literally a stone's throw from this awesome monument. We have two windows opening up to what promises to be our best view in all of Europe.
