Hotel Ibis, Brussels, Belgium

It felt very nice to sleep in this morning. I wasn't even upset at the construction workers who were hammering away downstairs. It sounded like they were trying to break the door down.

After having a quick bite to eat (chocolate milk and croissants again), our group split up for the day. Julien, Brian, and Andrew headed off for some university life, while Derek and I intended to see the Louvre.

"Intended" is an appropriate word because when we arrived at 1 PM, the line was about a quarter mile long. At the rate we were moving in line, we would have entered in about 3 hours. So, we ditched the Louvre (sadly) and spontaneously headed over to the Rodin Museum. This turned out to be an excellent choice. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by his Thinker. Inside were many other great works of art, my favorite of which was The Gates of Hell. Incredible.

When it was time to pack up for the day, we headed back to Julien's aunt's aparmtment where we hooked up with the rest of the crew. We tidied up the house and then the real adventure began.

Julien, Brian, and Andrew headed off to the airport where they would catch a flight to Marseilles. Derek and I headed to the train station where we caught a train to Brussels.

At the train station we purchased reservations, and had a few side adventures. Included: attempts to purchase a "Lactaid"-type pill (I'm lactose intolerant, and Paris, with its great love of fromage, really taxed my supply), and lunch at McDonald's (Paris-style). The only difference I really noticed was that Sweet & Sour sauce was called Chinese sauce, and they had Curry sauce. Curry sauce is weird.

We boarded our train, and were treated to an hour and a half of luscious European country.

In Brussels we walked quite a way to our hotel, so we had a while to see some Belgium life. Let's just say it's a lot like Oakland life (or life in any big city).
