We woke up around 8 this morning, took showers, and then headed downstairs for some grub.
Because we didn't have much time to see the city (and we honestly didn't think there was much in the city to see), we hurried out the door. Our first stop was an internet café (I think Derek is addicted.)
Our next stop was the Grand Place. On our way, we came upon a very old building which happened to be a church. We poked our heads inside and were amazed by the sculptures and architecture. The church was originally founded in the 14th century. Very cool.
We made our way over to the Grand Place where the splendor of the square far exceeded my expectations. The buildings on each side were ornamented with gold, statues, and many spires and gables. Each building had a beauty of its own, but together the sight was a mosaic of fascination and wonder.
Near the square we stopped into a shop to eat some waffles. I had a pineapple waffle and most of Derek's vanilla waffle. They were the best waffles I've ever had. Also, we bought some chocolate to take home with us.
We then hurried back to our hotel just before checkout time (12:00), picked up our bags,
and took the subway over to the train station. From there, we hopped on an Amsterdam-bound
train. We'll arrive in about 3 hours, and until then, I'll gaze out the window at the
peaceful Northern European countryside.
