On the winter solstice, we, for the first time, headed out the door as a group of four. Before we got on I-10, we stopped at Barnes & Nobles for some maps, at the PepBoys for some snow chains, and at the gas station for some gas and breakfast.
Finally, getting on I-10 we traveled for an hour and a half and saw some beautiful mountains and lots of windmills.
Then, about 3 o'clock, we crossed the Colorado River and entered the Grand Canyon State. I really thought that Arizona would be hot... ya know? It's a desert, right? Well, it's snowing. Weird.
Getting back on the road after getting lunch and eating utensils from Wendy's, we traveled into the night... through many a lightning storm.
Reaching Phoenix at 5:30 Pacific Standard (6:30 Mountain Time), we did some downtown siteseeing, mainly the Phoenix Civic Plaza. The Nutcracker was playing at the Symphony Hall, but we had no tickets so we had to stand outside. Otherwise, downtown Phoenix at night is nothing like downtown Berkeley at night. It was pretty empty outside.
Then, being the geniuses that we are, we thought we could make it to Oklahoma City that night. However, a snow storm changed our minds. We then decided to spend the night in Flagstaff where we had some pretty good snowfights.
Tomorrow, we will hopefully make it to Oklahoma City.
